sunfish lake modern - Sunfish Lake, MN
This stunning mid-century rambler in Sunfish Lake had an impressive floor plan with amazing views but needed a modern update. Our challenge was to design a functional kitchen that could handle Thanksgiving dinner, while keeping clutter at a minimum in order to function as an everyday entertaining space. We decided on sleek, minimal detailing throughout the kitchen and family room, which blends seamlessly with the existing home. A new 18’ folding glass wall system provides indoor/outdoor living with the adjacent pool in the summer months, and a panoramic view during the winter. New floating kitchen cabinets with back-painted glass fronts give an impossibly light feeling to the generous kitchen. A small scullery provides functional cooking and prep space while keeping the mess out of view. The book-matched walnut-paneled wall gives warmth to the space while also containing a hidden door to an adjacent guest suite. We finished off the space with a number of concealed doors that provide functionality to the minimal cabinetry. The end result is a livable showcase with a limited material palette that alternates between cozy and cool.
